Hypnosis Training
For many people, entry-level hypnosis training can either inspire and set them on the right path, confuse them, or put them off any further training.
Part of that is related to the quality of the training. How will you know if it is any good?
This page will help you make informed choices. Because as well as the training being good quality, it needs to be the right training for you. This means starting off with an understanding of how you prefer to learn. And then, selecting training based on the right content, location and delivery style.
Preferred Learning Style
Complete this quiz to find out your learning style...
If you are a visual learner, then a training that offers demonstrations, and good course notes is important.
If you are an auditory learner, having opportunities to discuss the course content with your trainer and your peers will be beneficial.
If you are a kinaesthetic learner, then having lots of practice, both in class and in the real world will make a difference.
Content and Purpose
You could do a quick internet search and see what is on offer and then consider which elements fit your needs. Or, you could take charge and create a selection list.
When you hone in on what your interests truly are, it makes it so much easier to search for and select the right training for you, so take the quiz.
Are you most interested in helping others? Then choose a training option that gives you the tools to both hypnotise, and help people resolve issues.
Is enhanced communication more your goal? Then look for a course that provides you with great suggestion skills; direct and indirect suggestions and both permissive and dynamic / authoritarian delivery styles.
Are you a performer? Want some cool party tricks so you stand out in a crowd? As well as awesome hypnotising skills, look for entry-level training in how to create fun (yet safe) routines and help people enjoy hypnosis.
For explorers, a course that tells you ‘why’ as well as ‘what’ gives you the depth of understanding that will enable you to relate what you learn to how the mind does, and can, work.
Are you most interested in self-development? If you are interested in using hypnosis to fulfil your potential and achieve personal growth, then training that gives you tools to apply to yourself (not just others) is important.
Location
No travel option

Books, pre-recorded online courses, and live online courses are all great options if you want to learn at home, or at your own pace.
Local options

Depending on where you live (or work), there may be a great training provider nearby. If not, then look for local opportunities for practice. Check on social media and with others who have a similar interest to you and see if there are any practice groups or meet-ups. You might learn at your own pace at home, but then also have an opportunity to get in some valuable practice.
In-person training

Whilst it may involve some travel, in-person travel, at some point on your learning journey, will give you far more than the actual training. You will get to connect with others going through the same training, and benefit from the direct contact with the trainer. You will also get to see, and experience, how others hypnotise. This can significantly increase your understanding and boost your skills.
Delivery style – what actually works best
If you are choosing to start learning by a book, you could check the start and end of the book, and get a feel for whether the author’s style suits you. The same approach can be taken with pre-recorded online courses.
For live online and in-person courses, there can be a difference between which approaches are most effective for your learning, and what is easiest for you. For some, sitting at the back of the class and just watching and listening is easiest. But, it may not be the most memorable.

Hypnosis is a practical skill. However, you also benefit from at least the minimum of theory, so you know not just what to do, but why you are doing it. Why? Humans don’t always respond the same way. So having an understanding of what you are doing, rather than just routinely delivering a script or patter, means that you can adapt, in the moment, if you need to.
How does this relate to delivery style? Good training tends to offer multiple ways of covering the core material. So some direct teaching, with the trainer talking, or delivering a demonstration. Plus some discussions, so you get to engage your thinking processes and connect to what you are being taught. Then, supervised practice, with feedback to help you develop in the right direction.
Budget

Why is this so far down the list? You know your budget. When you have worked through all of the other selection criteria, you can then choose what works financially. If you only go looking for the cheapest option, you may not get what meets your needs. If you are hungry, buying a balloon may be cheaper than a sandwich, but it isn’t going to solve the hunger. A targeted search makes the best value for your time, energy and money.
